"gave up waiting for root device" while booting

when I turn on my PC and boot 8.10 the splash screen disappears and this error message is prompted.

when I reboot 8.10 starts without problems.

    any hints?

    Attach image?

Oops sorry I was trying to figure out how people attach a clickable thumbnail instead of giant pictures.

No I didn't mean to complain but I have seen people do this:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=978984
and I want to know how. I posted a question here:

Wait a moment and then type exit. If it works fine after that it just isn't waiting long enough for your hardware to come up, so adjust the rootdelay= parameter like it suggests.

after waiting and typing "exit" the system boots.

    So I guess you're right.

    dominik@athlon:~$ cat /proc/cmdline
    root=UUID=105e82bc-3131-428f-ad9e-aa5f55833421 ro quiet splash
    dominik@athlon:~$
how can I adjust the rootdelay?

I only use Ubuntu with Gnome. No terminal experiences...

    Edit your /boot/grub/menu.lst.

I have exactly the same problem as DE255. I added all_generic_ide to tehe kernel options in /boot/grub/menu.lst and the BusyBox doesn't appear now but the starting time of the system is 2m20s!
    What is wrong?

increased the wait up to 20 sec.
    no change.
    same error.

    I tried something else:
after the BusyBox error I only waited 1 or 2 seconds and after typing EXIT everythings fine. strange, hm?

    the wait-time isn't the core-problem I guess.

Re: "gave up waiting for root device" while booting

I'm having the same problem, however just typing exit did not fix it. the only way i have had it load into Ubuntu is when i start windows first and then restart and it starts up normally. also if i wait long enough it starts to spit out other errors.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
