power top wake ups from [kernel scheduler] Load balancing tick and [ohci_hcd:usb4,

trying to save abit of power where i can, this is from my fileserver/htpc, a zotac gf 9300 itx motherboard and a underclocked e3300 at 100mhz on fsb.

is there any way i can lower the amounnt that these processes wake up the cpu?

      echo min_power > /sys/class/scsi_host/host0/link_power_management_policy
    or press the S key.

edit: is there away to get this cpu to run in Cstates?

I wish mine was only 67 or so. Take a look at mine.

    HTML Code:

From what I can gather it's the 2.6.32-24 kernel in lucid (and maybe other distros as well?)and they are aware of the problem. I guess a newer kernel, like the one in maverick, is supposed to address the issue. Whether it completely fixes the issue, remains to be seen. Anyway there is alot of different threads about it.

Re: power top wake ups from [kernel scheduler] Load balancing tick and [ohci_hcd:usb

Just to revive an old ongoing issue, how is maverick's kernel handling this problem? Is the wake - ups and load - balancing better handled in maverick?
The only computer that would benefit from this is my laptop, which would be the only one I would consider upgrading. The others I am leaving on lucid, as there is no reason to go to maverick on them.

I'm using maverick and am having the same problem. I'm just starting to look into it.

Re: power top wake ups from [kernel scheduler] Load balancing tick and [ohci_hcd:usb

I'm only seeing 16% or so for the "load balancing tick" but I see
roughly 30% for "extra timer interrupt".

Even with that, I'm seeing 90% in C3 and 10% in C0. I've never seen
the 2-3% C0 that others report.

    Puzzled,
