updates after installation

Hi everybody, I'm a total linux/xbuntu noob and was wondering , do I really need all the 245 updates my desktop says are available?

Good question. I have to admit, I just do it.

In 9.04, the updates cause a quirk in the boot.lst, with installs listed twice. So I have to reedit it to default to Windows 7 on this laptop.

That's about the only negative thing I have notice.

Thanks for the reply. The reason I'm asking is because I installed sabayon 5.0 the other day and it worked great until I installed the updates. Afterwards all sorts went wrong. I'm loving this xbuntu 8.04 install and have xbmc running on it, I just don't want to fubar it.
