@Bakinsoda: Hi, Ubuntu 10.10 seems to me a little faster than 10.04, but I'm using normal Gnome version, because Unity doesn't satisfy me. I'm trying actually to use some docks on the desktop. Cairo dock still seems to me the best even if it's not done for touchscreen and it's not the easiest to use. And.. yeah, you need Compiz.

@Linxgr: with Plippo's PPA I think it's also easier now to install maverick than Lucid. But it's not so different. If you're ok with 10.04, and it works, you can avoid upgrading. But the repository is done for Maverick, not for Lucid.

There is a google chrome extension for page grabbing, in case no one has noticed. Unfortunately, it causes some annoying usability issues in gmail.... You can disable it, but it's not easy and quick.

When you guys launch gnome terminal, say via Control + Alt + t, can you guys paste text via Control+Shift+v or through the menu? I can only paste by right-clicking.

Yes, I found that Ctrl+Shift+v doesn't work anymore after the upgrade, but menu works. I'm currently using unity.

I updated the kernel to 32-25, uninstalled the old driver and installed the appropriate driver, and found mypaint in the condition you describe and gimp lacking pressure sensitivity. I reinstalled both programs. That fixed gimp, but not mypaint.

I have a suggestion about mypaint, actually. I don't know what Plippo altered in mypaint to make it work for us, but perhaps a better solution would be to write a patch (which includes the brush fix) so that we might be able to update our mypaint installs (version 9 is already out now)

@Plippo: When you corrected the pen pressure issue in mypaint, what did you alter?

Also, trying out Jupiter to gain SHE-like overclocking. I'll let y'all know how that goes.

Good idea. I already created a patch for my changes, I will add the brush fixes later. Strangely though, the "old" mypaint still works for me in Maverick.

I found some times in Maverick that dialog boxes hide behind other windows, and I thought they didn't appear for a long time. Then I found them by Alt-Tab. Anyone else experiences the same bug? It that due to unity?

Okay, here is the mypaint patch, it is attached to this post. To use it, do the following:

1. Uninstall mypaint if you have installed the package from the wiki or this thread
2. Install the mypaint package from the normal Ubuntu repository, e.g. using Software Center
3. Download the attached (compressed) patch file and save it to your home directory.
4. Open a terminal and execute the following commands:

gzip -d mypaint-resistive.patch.gz
sudo patch -p1 -d /usr/share/mypaint < mypaint-resistive.patch

Good news and bad news.

Good news is, Jupiter is an awesome little utility which taps into the almighty power of the built-in Super Hybrid Engine. It adds a bit of battery life (not sure how much yet), and when I want to play Zelda I can rev up the SH Engine and get 2-3 times the frame rate. It's great, seriously. Note: The version for Ubuntu is not being updated anymore, because the author didn't like constantly fixing bugs. I've had absolutely no problems, and it certainly seems to work as it should, but it might do something weird on your system. Also, be wary of overheating.


Bad news is, the patch doesn't work for mypaint 9.0 beta, which is basically what the upcoming full release will be in 2-4 weeks. Only a few lines at the end were successfully changed. This is due, I think, to the reorganization of the brush files. My output after trying to apply the patch:
