I have an Envy 14 laptop on which I am running Crunchbang++ (basically debian 9). I cannot get the external monitor (TV) to be detected through the HDMI port. I know that the monitor, port, and cable...
FOUND IT.
I used Ubuntu Tweak to enable the offical virtualbox repo (not OSE edition). Virtualbox 4.1 is the culprit. After installing it suspend hangs and locks up the lappy. I completely...
Alright, thanks for trying to help but I reinstalled a fresh 10.04.3. Suspending works again. I'm gonna track this sucker down by slowly installing updates a few at a time and suspending after...
Oh also, when your computer beeps those are actually error codes. You can look them up online somewhere to find out what they mean depending on how many times it beeps and whether the beeps are long...
Does it also shutdown when you boot into Vista? If so (I suspect it will) then reinstalling Ubuntu won't help. Something went wrong when you installed the new CPU and fan. You are probably right...
None of those things worked. Suspend fails every time. When I tried suspending directly with the line you gave
sudo bash -c "echo mem > /sys/power/state"
It froze up hard again but the...

I know when you open the power management in Lucid, it only offers the options to suspend, hibernate, or shutdown, however there are more options that you can set if you use gconf-editor.
Do...
Maybe. I can actually delete files from my MP3 player though without being root. I do have to delete them twice (the first time they move to .trash, then I delete .trash and they are permanently...
You should've been able to permanently delete the files as root. You can hit alt-F2 and
gksudo thunar
to open the file browser as root. You should be able to delete stubborn files that way.
You can install Ubuntu Tweak to easily enable some popular PPAs that give you more up to date software (including latest firefox and virtualbox 4.1).
Do you have a total of more than 4 gigs of memory? If so you might want to make sure you're running a 64 bit Kubuntu.
I couldn't figure out if there was a newer version of my bios. There didn't seem to be one on Lenovo's website and mine says it's from 2009 so it might be the latest version already.
Okay, I...
Not sure why it's not showing up in your menu but you can run it from the terminal by just typing in "avidemux" or you can hit alt-f2 and launch it from there.
You can also add a new menu item by...
Gconf-editor is for editing some settings related to gnome. It's sort of like the registry editor in windows.
I know suspend problems are a common issue and I've googled a lot but I just can't figure this out.
A fresh install of Lucid on my thinkpad t60 was able to suspend without problems. At some point...
Everything here worked fine in Lucid. Thank you so much!
Same problem. You can work around it by using the right click menu. (Subtitles are under video).
If anyone finds the answer to replacing this icon please share. It's really bugging me.
Edit: Finally found a fix after googling around again (I've looked before and come up with nothing).

Confirming that gnomad2 works on Ubuntu 10.04 for my Samsung YP-S3 only after installing the old version of libmtp8 provided in this thread and unmounting the player (which was automounted when...
You can also run gnome-volume-control-applet for anyone who likes the old style volume control instead of the newer one in lucid (which looks weird with my shiki-colors theme)
I've never posted about this before because it's not a serious problem so much as an annoyance, but maybe some genius out there can actually figure out what's wrong. Apologies if this is the wrong...
I stumbled across this thread because I couldn't find it either. For the record, there is still no guest account option in the user switcher for me, but if you add the "indicator applet session"...
