[SOLVED] Re: Screen tearing in Ubuntu 24.04

On closer inspection, no, it's actually not solved completely, though the situation is much better with the extension than without it. How the extension works is it disables undirected fullscreen...

Re: Ubuntu 24.04 and zfs snapshots

I don't know, all these zfs snapshot managers seem too complicated for my needs that could be just as easily served with few commands and anacron. I really hope Timeshift developer warms up to zfs....

Re: Ubuntu 24.04 and zfs snapshots

Thank you, that's a really nice tutorial to cover to important basics. So, let's say update messed up something important on the system and I need to go back to an earlier snapshot. Like this?

    zfs...

Re: Ubuntu 24.04 and zfs snapshots

Great, this seems like a nice beginning, lots of apps to check out. But I'm mostly interested in apps that people have actually tested on 24.04, because there are always these little changes in...

    Ubuntu 24.04 and zfs snapshots

There were already things said on this subject, but I would need more recent info, applicable to the new Ubuntu. I use zfs on Ubuntu since 20.04 (no encryption) and I like how it would create...

[ubuntu] Re: New LTS, new FS?

As I said, the computer is slowly heading towards retirement, then it's going to brother's kids and I expect kids will be wrecking it regularly, so not many reasons to worry about problems years down...

[SOLVED] Screen tearing in Ubuntu 24.04

GeForce 1060 graphic card with 535.171.04 drivers. First I noticed some screen tearing in Stremio watching a movie in full screen mode. Then today I try a video game and again I notice screen...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: Grub menu making a return on Ubuntu 24.04

I thing that this should be some sort of protection for systems with zfs and uefi to force grub menu to appear. But my earlier Ubuntu also used zfs and had hidden boot. I wonder if it has something...
  10. [ubuntu] Grub menu making a return on Ubuntu 24.04

So many previous versions of Ubuntu were not showing grub menu, but it came back on 24.04, with 30 seconds timeout.

    From /boot/grub/grub.cfg:

    terminal_output gfxterm
    if [ "${recordfail}" =...

[ubuntu] Re: New LTS, new FS?

There indeed was no way to manually choose anything for zfs installation, so I just went with what installer offered me.

[ubuntu] Re: New LTS, new FS?

Does the new installer allow the user to change the size of bpool or /boot? That sounds like elementary stuff, not something that we should jump through hoops to get.

[ubuntu] Re: New LTS, new FS?

I got an important question. Did the installer allow you to change any of those sizes or could you just let it do everything automatically as it sees fit? Could you change the size of bpool or /boot?

[ubuntu] Re: New LTS, new FS?

I'm reading on Phoronix that new installer can install zfs on root, even encryption is supported. I believe there is no longer a separate volume for /boot and zsys is out. I have no idea how they...

    [ubuntu] New LTS, new FS?

Considering that Ubuntu 24.04 is coming with kernel that supports bcachefs, are we going to see in the installer an option to use the new filesystem? I am generally adventurous enough to try new...
  16. Re: So, Ubuntu 23.10 is bringing back zfs in installer...

As I expected, no answer. My system miraculously managed to survive a slew of kernel and driver updates and if it breaks, I got a USB stick with Ubuntu 23.10 MM waiting. Situation is not bad, but I...
  17. Re: So, Ubuntu 23.10 is bringing back zfs in installer...

Thanks, though I doubt it would do much good. If we're very lucky, it might arrive in time for 24.04.
  18. Re: So, Ubuntu 23.10 is bringing back zfs in installer...

I'm not that king of a masochist. I'd prefer if I could change a number in some config file on the iso, that would be lovely. Option to choose during the installation would obviously be the best, but...
  19. Re: So, Ubuntu 23.10 is bringing back zfs in installer...

Installer back in the days did not allow any manual configuration if you wanted zfs, you could only let the installer autoconfigure the filesystem and that was it. I'm not unhappy with zfs or zsys,...
  20. Re: So, Ubuntu 23.10 is bringing back zfs in installer...

Uff, it's a long story that I really don't feel like getting into. I started with 20.04, everything was super until 22.04 upgrade, then the space starts running out. Because currently I have kernel...
  21. So, Ubuntu 23.10 is bringing back zfs in installer...

I'm using 22.04.3 with zfs and I've had a myriad problems because of it. Mind you, not with zfs itself, that was working well, but with the fact that the Ubuntu installer created a 2GB bpool for...

  23. [ubuntu] Re: ZFS boot volume lack of space, round two

Yes, of course, I've made data backups, it's not a huge thing if everything breaks, I do have free time for a fresh install if it comes to worst.

Indeed, I do have regular and HWE stacks...
  24. [ubuntu] Re: ZFS boot volume lack of space, round two

Ok, so I whacked bpool/BOOT/ubuntu_r569du, that released space on bpool, so I could upgrade. This time I tried upgrading from tty, thinking that if it's indeed graphic driver problem, I might not...
  25. [ubuntu] Re: ZFS boot volume lack of space, round two

I removed bpool/BOOT/ubuntu_us9kn1 and nothing bad happened, so clearly it won't remove /boot. It was used for the old 5.15 kernel, which I don't need any more.

    I can't remove old kernels, i tried...
