  1. [ubuntu] Re: "The following packages have been kept back: linux-image-virtual"

For anyone else looking at this thread, this is what worked for me:

    sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

It then says some packages have been held back, simply install them manually, in my case it was...

    Re: Website Signature script

I haven't heard of it. And I wouldn't put any time into developing it either if I were you.

Not that I'm a legal expert or anything but a checkbox saying I agree and a log of the users IP address...

Thats probably because I based the opening paragraph on one of the legal threats they sent The Pirate Bay. ;)

    Re: If ubuntu suddenly died

I honestly don't know. I love the user friendliness and driver support of Ubuntu and the only one that rivals it as far as I can see is Mint, which wouldn't exist without Ubuntu.

    Either Debian or...

    True dat.

I'm pretty sure if you have used 7.4gb then you can afford to download some of the older stuff to your hard drive using Thunderbird or another client capable exporting in mbox format....

PHP 5.3 with FastCgi on Cherokee server.

The title describes the sort of setup I'm trying to achieve, I'm fairly technically minded but I'm not really an expert on server setups.

I have compiled PHP5.3 from source and installed the...

[SOLVED] Re: workaround for flash mouse problem (bug #410407)

Actually, I don't understand why people are using that script in the first place. The first solution is easier and it has worked perfectly for me.

Re: I just uninstalled Firefox from my computer!

I think this is a joke, I _hope_ this is a joke.

Just in case it's not. Not sane web developer who is even half decent at their job would code for IE of any version first. It's an amateur mistake.
  12. [SOLVED] Re: ATI radeon mobility 7 doesnt work properly on jaunty

ATI pulled support for the Radeon mobility drivers for some obscure reason.

The version of Mesa that comes with 9.04 does support the drivers, but not very well. Try upgrading Mesa or use Karmic....

Re: Microsoft patenting Sudo (For real?)

    I'm speachless.

How on earth can they patent something so abstract? I thought you could only patent a method, not just an idea? Aside from that this is just an s**ty thing to do.
  15. [ubuntu] Re: is it possible to sync my iphone in ubuntu?

There is a way, but it's still under heavy development. This is not an option for a newbie. Just letting you know, they plan to package it soon, so fingers crossed for the next release!

    But yeah,...

  17. [ubuntu] Re: Dual Boot With XP: No "Side by Side" Option!

You need to partition the hard drive. It's not because the drive is full, it's cause that portion of the hard drive is specified as the XP partition, and that is a fixed size. You have to manually...

  24. [ubuntu] Re: Thinking about switching to Ubuntu- would like some advice

You can do what is called a "dual boot." This is my preferred method as occasionally I need to access 7 to run Photoshop CS4.
