  1. [xubuntu] switching windows by clicking on menu bar grabs window

Hi all, I'm having a weird issue with my Xubuntu 13.10 install. Switching windows by left-clicking in the menu bar (not title bar) actually grabs the window to move it around instead of simply...
  2. [all variants] ffmpeg libtheora fails when using hd480 size

I'm trying to transcode a video I took with a digital camera to an ogv, but get an error from ffmpeg when I try to downsize it from 720p to 480p. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04.

[SOLVED] Re: Google chrome (dev) sources.list problem

FYI, Google recognizes this as a problem, but "there is no timeframe yet" for fixing it. (Source.)
  4. [ubuntu] Re: Incorrect system time due to DST extension

System -> Administration -> Time and Date.

    Set configuration to manual.
  5. [SOLVED] Re: workaround for flash mouse problem (bug #410407)

@bartman: Yeah, there's nothing inherently wrong about using that script. The reason why I suggested against it in this thread is because my point here is not to help people that want to experiment...
  6. [SOLVED] Re: workaround for flash mouse problem (bug #410407)

    Hi mwolfgang,

That's probably a different issue. I haven't had a problem with AJAX mouse recognition at all. You should probably file a separate bug report.

    Hope it helps.
  7. [SOLVED] Re: workaround for flash mouse problem (bug #410407)

    Hi robau,

I don't personally recommend using that script as it performs filesystem operations without the package manager's knowledge. This can leave your system in an inconsistent state.

    It's...
  8. [SOLVED] workaround for flash mouse problem (bug #410407)

Just wanted to post this here for everyone's benefit (and hopefully less spam in the bugreport).

In comment #143, Edward posted a workaround which works for me as well as others. However, I have...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: Shared folder confusion: nautilus share vs samba

Just wanted to thank you, Yashiro, for the tip about system-config-samba. It's just what I needed and works great.

[ubuntu] Re: problem setting gamma and gain new gspca

This search seems to indicate it will be available in Karmic, but it's not a package for Jaunty as far as I could find. I compiled it from sf.net, though, just needed to install qt3-dev-tools.

[ubuntu] printing over samba on Canon MP160

    Hi all,

I've got a Canon PIXMA MP160 connected to my Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64 box, which works great, both printing and scanning. I'm using the built-in Ubuntu drivers and not the Canon ones since Canon...

    [ubuntu] Re: cdrom mount point

Perfect, clearing the udev .rules file did the trick. Good to know that I should clear it when changing hardware. Thanks again!

    [ubuntu] Re: cdrom mount point

mc4man, thanks that line worked perfectly! I owe you one.

A side note, though, anyone know why my symlink in /dev is /dev/cdrom5 instead of /dev/cdrom? On my xubuntu laptop it is the latter, which...

    [ubuntu] cdrom mount point

    Hello all,

I have a question about my cdrom mount point. Whenever I insert a cdrom, it mounts in "/media/[disc-name]", for example "/media/Ubuntu 8.10 i386". I would expect it to mount in...

[ubuntu] Re: Set the inode size?

As far as I know, increasing the inode size is a bit of future-proofing to allow for extra data fields for files (such as nanosecond timestamps, etc.). It does seem a little silly to me, but who am I...

[ubuntu] Re: Flash in any/all forms is lagging

Could you post your whole system specs? Also, what does System Monitor show when the flash is choppy? Full CPU usage?
  17. [ubuntu] Re: Anybody know how to hack RAM and re-program it?

If memtest detects a problem, then there is something wrong with your physical RAM. No way to fix that. (Without a really, really small soldering iron. ;))
  18. [xfce] Re: Hary/xfce : pulseaudio as a service is for root only ;-(

Did you figure it out? If not, you need to add users to the pulse-access group to be able to connect to pulseaudio, as documented here.

Also, you shouldn't modify the init script itself but...
  19. [ubuntu] Re: can't get to command line from grub menu

Well, this is weird. I didn't have caps lock on, but I tried it with caps lock on and guess what... it worked! Thanks for your help!

So, new problem: why is caps lock "reversed" for my grub?
  20. Re: HOWTO: PulseAudio Fixes & System-Wide Equalizer Support

    Skype finally works! Thanks!

I have no idea what all you PPA packages did, but I'll have to accept the magic, I guess. :-P
  21. [ubuntu] Re: can't get to command line from grub menu

Huh? Do you mean by changing menu.lst? The problem isn't that I can't boot, it's that I can't edit the command line from the grub menu.
  22. [ubuntu] can't get to command line from grub menu

    Hey guys,

I was thinking about upgrading to Intrepid today, but I've had this problem with my grub menu for a while which I'd like to resolve first.

The problem is that on the grub menu, I can...
