Thanks for posting this! This (similar) worked great on Hardy Heron!
I know this is old, but I was having this problem, and the first reply is NOT helpful. Since this came up in a search I did, perhaps it will help someone else.
The solution for my problem was that...
I've switched back to 8.04, but I saved some logs from when I was on 10.04.1 and freezing. I'm attaching one that includes about ten restarts.
I've asked about providing logs before, since I don't...
I have completely solved the Lucid Lynx freeze problem by switching back to Hardy Heron.
Ok, "solved" may not be the right word. More like "avoided", but 8.04 actually works pretty well for my...
I'm glad I'm not the only one getting that... :)
Wouldn't it be easier if we all just drank the MS Kool-Aid? Personally, I prefer the flavor of the Linux Kool-Aid. Usually. :-\
Which issue to post logs to? If they need logs, I'll send mine! I figured they must have had SOMETHING to work from...
Hi, I've been having similar problems with my 10.04.1 upgrade from 8.04, and I've been watching this thread with interest.
My question is, is there someone who would benefit from additional...
Hi, I've answered my own question.
I looked at these two pages:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_GRUB
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2
I found /boot/grub/menu.lst and found that indeed...
Hi, I'll try to tell the short version of my story...
Updated from 8.04 to 10.04.1 last week. Mostly OK, a few little problems, but let's just talk about the big one right now.
I'm pretty sure...
Happy New Year! Giving this a Bump since I posted it when many were away over the holidays.
I see that Inkscape 0.47 is included with 9.04 and 9.10, so I will likely just stick with Inkscape 0.46...
Hi, I think I'm missing an important step. I'll try to keep this concise.
I want to upgrade Inkscape from version 0.46 to version 0.47 under Hardy Heron (8.04).
I started with these...
Sweet, cn.scs.msg.yahoo.com did it! When Pidgin quit working on both Ubuntu and WinXP, I figured something was up. Too bad I didn't see this thread earlier.
Thanks!
I am trying to use a DOS program (CE6) via DOSEMU to program a handheld ham radio, but the program doesn't seem to see the serial port. I'm not sure if this is an Ubuntu config problem or a DOSEMU...
Apparently, this is a Linux bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/144481
In the past, I've copied files off of this CD onto ******* using HFVExplorer. I'll go that route for...
The results:
aer0usa@Ubuntu:~$ sudo mount /dev/cdrom /home/aer0usa/bjr
mount: block device /dev/scd0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: you must specify the filesystem type...
Same result:
aer0usa@Ubuntu:~$ sudo mount -t hfsplus /dev/cdrom /home/aer0usa/bjr
mount: block device /dev/scd0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad...
Thanks avtolle. That's just the one attempt that I copied to show. I tried -t iso9660 and got the same results. I also tried -t hfs+ and it said 'unknown filesystem type'.
From your first reply,...
Hi,
I have a CD-ROM I burned from my old Mac, back in the System 7 days. I'm trying to mount the CD on my new Ubuntu machine to get at some of my old docs.
When I try to mount the CD, I get an...
I'm sorry to do this to a perfectly good thread, but I am a thread killer. It was fun while it lasted. :(
Thanks again Gary!
I agree that the screen saver is hardly the most important functionality for my computer. Just checking. Thanks!
When I select a screen saver in the Screensaver Preferences tool, I don't see a way to further configure the screen saver I've selected. For example, for many screen savers in Other Operating...
Hi everyone,
There's another wrinkle to this issue now. Once I'm logged in, the desktop appears at 1280x1024, but the login screen seems to appear at a higher resolution. The username and password...
Thanks, Shazbut!
I have 8.04, so that was easy!
Cheers,
Eric
Hi iaculallad.
If I leave the KVM out, I can use the monitor at 1280x1024. So I'm pretty sure it's not the monitor or video adaptor.
Thanks anyhow,
Eric
